Perth Enrichment Program for Older Adults (PEP)

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Perth Enrichment Program for Older Adults.

Pep Programs

PEP is a therapeutic, daytime program for older adults who are living independently.

It also serves as respite care for their caregivers.

Additionly on Tuesdays, PEP has a therapeutic program to support and improve lung function.

PEP was developed in response to both the growing needs in the Perth and Smiths Falls communities, as well as the mandates of the Seniors Strategy of Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care.

We are a program of care, direction and therapy which focuses on helping older Ontarians stay healthy and stay at home longer. Our mandate is to equip and provide respite to caregivers, and to support the older adults they care for through physical, cognitive, social and emotional therapies.

We currently have 3 different programs running at our location on Elliot Street, Perth:

1. Older Adult Day Program
2. Breathe Well Live Well Program (COPD Day)
3. Community Exercise Classes

Please visit our specific program pages for more details on each of the programs.

Using evidence – based therapies, PEP’s primary goal is to optimize the overall health of our program participants so they can thrive independently at home and in their community.

The three full time health professionals working within our program, along with trained volunteers from our community, will care for  clients daily during our program days.

We pride ourselves in offering a welcoming atmosphere to our clients and their families. We encourage open communication between clients, family members, client’s doctors and PEP staff.

Who is the program geared towards?

PEP is a program for the older adult, living independently, with multiple chronic diseases.  The participant will typically be frail, is beginning to be unable to perform activities of daily living –  impacting their quality of life, and is often vulnerable to physical and/or mental illness.

Respite Time for Caregivers

In addition to the direct benefits to participants, PEP will afford family caregivers a respite from the demands of full-time care giving for someone who needs supervision, as well as educational, prognostic and social work assistance.
